Find out more about what Landfill Reduction does to improve waste management of construction materials.

Our Mission

Our Mission is Simple:
Recycle, Responsibly

Landfill Reduction's mission is to drastically increase construction material recycling in order to create jobs, reduce landfilling, and work towards a more sustainable Wisconsin.

Landfill Reduction is a locally owned, DNR permitted construction materials recycling company with processing facilities located in Appleton and Madison, Wisconsin. The company accepts mixed construction materials that were previously landfilled, sorts the materials, and further processes the materials into high quality end products.

Who we are.....

Mixed loads?

The majority of material accepted by Landfill Reduction comes "mixed". This means all construction materials from a single project are put into a single container. Examples of mixed loads are home renovation projects, new construction projects, complete home demolitions, and certain commercial projects. Accepting mixed material allows more projects to be recycled.

What we accept....

Landfill Reduction accepts mixed and sorted loads of construction material. Material can come from residents, contractors, and rolloff/trucking companies. Loads containing asbestos, hazardous waste, or free liquids are not accepted.

Why it's good for the environment....

Construction material makes up 15-35% of the waste stream. This material is highly recycable.

Recycling saves energy, Landfill Reduction conserved the equivalent of 1.8 Million gallons of gasoline last year through their recycling efforts!

Landfill Reduction reduces the need for additional landfills. Our facilities process as much construction material each year as most mid sized landfills bury each year.

What is recycled?

Landfill Reduction recycles the following commodities from incoming material:

Wood, metal, cardboard, drywall, vinyl siding, aggregates (rock, brick, block, concrete, asphalt)

Why it's good for the community....

Recycling creates jobs! General studies show that recycling produces 10x more jobs than landfilling the same material. Since 2012 Landfill Reduction has created over 50 jobs.

Recycling helps Wisconsin Industry! Recycling construction materials generates thousands of tons of low cost, high quality feed stock from Wisconsin based businesses. Landfill Reduction commodities help feed Wisconsin industries including agriculture, paper, foundries, energy production, transportation, and construction.

What happens to it?

Mixed construction material is sorted using a semi-automated sorting line similar to single stream curbside recycling. Once sorted, the material is further processed through grinding, shredding, baling, and grading to meet end market requirements. Landfill Reduction constantly works to develop new markets for their recycled materials. Examples of end markets include:

Vinyl Siding - Used in new siding manufacturing

New Drywall - Ground to powder form and used as a gypsum soil amendment on local farms

Wood - Used for a variety of end products including landscaping mulch, animal bedding, erosion control products, and boiler fuel.

Shingles - Ground and used to replace virgin oil and aggregate in hot mix asphalt for new roads

Cardboard - Locally recycled for producing new corrugated containers

Metal - Processed locally for new metal products
